The swimsuit-required, mixed-gender area was fine for our kids. Just note there's a separate pool and sauna on the 2nd floor that's off-limits under 20 — worth checking you're on the right floor.

Q: Can you still use the pool on a windy day?

The day we went, the wind was strong enough to shut off the automatic doors, but as long as the rain had stopped, the pool itself was fine to use. If it feels too cold, retreating to the room is a reasonable call too.

In August 2026, one week after Okinawa's main island, the four of us flew to Ishigaki and stayed at seven x seven Ishigaki. 1. The room: a bunk bed and a partial ocean view

At our younger daughter's request, we booked a room with a bunk bed. Unfortunately it wasn't a true ocean view — just barely a "partial ocean view." Worth double-checking the room type when you book.

Check-in came with a nice surprise: a welcome drink, a full bottle of it. Where a lot of hotels give sparkling wine, this one was real Champagne.

2. Swimsuit-required, mixed-gender sauna and jacuzzi

The hotel's sauna and jacuzzi are a swimsuit-required, mixed-gender area, and our kids could use it too. One thing to note: there's a separate pool and sauna on the 2nd floor that's off-limits to anyone under 20. Worth checking with staff so you don't end up on the wrong floor.

There were two cold plunge pools, 17.6°C and 9.1°C. The 9.1°C one was so cold we could only manage about 10 seconds. Loungers for cooling down were set up both indoors and out, in plenty.

3. The pool, a little rough from the wind. Kids' end up to 1.3m deep

The outdoor pool had a lot of leaves and debris blown in from the wind, so it wasn't at its cleanest. That's probably down to the season and weather more than anything. Depth ranges from a shallow kids' end to 1.3m at the deep end. There are plenty of cabanas to settle into. Right in the middle of the pool there's also a lounge area built around a fire pit.

The 2nd floor has a Sky Bar for over-20s only, with its own pool and sauna attached. There's nothing around to block the view, so even up on the 2nd floor it felt wide open.

4. Day three: the wind shut off the automatic doors, but we hit the pool anyway

By day three the wind had picked up even more, strong enough to shut off the hotel's automatic doors.

Still, the rain had stopped, so we headed for the pool anyway. It was cold enough that our older daughter stayed back in the room for part of it.

5. Dinner at the hotel restaurant, batida

It's popular enough that guests from other hotels come to eat here too. The akajin (a type of grouper) was excellent.
